Why is the Futurliner so iconic? Built for GM’s 1939 New York World’s Fair and later the 1950s “Parade of Progress,” these massive, art deco Streamliner buses were custom-designed to showcase futuristic technologies across America. With only 12 ever built, and even fewer surviving today, it remains one of the rarest and most striking automotive icons ever created!

What truly sets them apart is their incredible design and cultural impact. Standing over 11 feet tall, weighing 12 tons, and featuring dual front wheels, a central “cockpit-style” driver’s seat, and doors that opened to reveal mobile exhibits, they were essentially land yachts of innovation. They traveled across the country carrying high-tech displays on jet propulsion, television, and microwave ovens directly to everyday Americans, effectively shaping the public’s dream of the modern future during the mid-20th century.
