Be sure to stop by the 2026 Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, June 14th to see our stunning 1938 Mercedes-Benz 320 Cabriolet B on display! Introduced in 1937 as the successor to the Type 290, the Mercedes-Benz 320 held an important place in the company’s prewar range. Offered in sedan, touring, and cabriolet forms, it paired a 78-horsepower 3.2-liter inline-six with independent suspension and hydraulic brakes, bringing much of Mercedes-Benz’s technical sophistication and prestige to a broader luxury audience. Constructed in 1938 at Mercedes-Benz’s Mannheim plant, this 1938 Mercedes Benz 320 Cabriolet B (chassis 435053), now part of the Stahls Motor and Music Experience collection in Chesterfield, Michigan, has a documented Swedish ownership history dating to its original 1938 registration in Västerbotten. A W142-series example with the desirable Cabriolet B body on the longer-wheelbase chassis, it was restored to a high standard in 2010 and finished in two-tone blue with a tan leather interior and wool carpeting. The car retains its original matching-numbers 3.2-liter inline-six—an important element of its historical integrity—along with its jack and firewall-mounted tools. It also features the rare “Autobahn Gearing” overdrive system, operated by a separate floor-mounted lever, reflecting the era’s high-speed touring ambitions. Within Mercedes-Benz’s late-1930s lineup, the W142 occupied the mid-range luxury position between the 290 and the more prestigious 500/540K models. With its coach built open body, the Cabriolet B appealed to affluent buyers seeking both prestige and practicality, though World War II soon curtailed production and civilian use, leaving many examples lost. Built in limited numbers from 1937 to 1942, the 320 Cabriolet B stands today as a distinguished example of late interwar German luxury motoring We're honored to share it with enthusiasts from across the country.
