Story

This 1936 Auburn 852 was the end of the line for the Auburn automobiles. The Auburn Speedsters of 1935 and 1936 were nothing short of revolutionary. Each one came equipped with a powerful supercharged in-line eight-cylinder engine that produced 150 horsepower, making the Speedster one of the fastest production cars of its time.

To showcase its capabilities, legendary race driver Ab Jenkins pushed a stock 851SC Speedster to new limits, becoming the first American to average over 100 mph for 12 straight hours. This remarkable achievement earned every Auburn Speedster a special dash plaque, personally signed by Jenkins, certifying its 100 mph pedigree.

Though priced at $2,245 when new, Auburn actually lost an estimated $300 on every car sold. But company president E.L. Cord had a bigger vision: the sleek, attention-grabbing Speedster acted as a showroom magnet, luring customers to purchase other Auburn models that were more affordable and more profitable.

Today, the 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster stands as an icon of 1930s automotive daring: fast, stylish, and forever tied to its record-breaking heritage.
